AboutThis is a community meant for in depth discussion of characterization in BTVS/ATS Fanfiction, of all types. Het, Slash and Gen. I hope to get things up and running soon, but that doesn't mean I will. Right now, I'm looking for volunteers (and will later harrass fans ;-) to write essays, short character studies, etc.
The entire purpose of this is to create discussion. I beg you, comment, jump in and give your view. No flaming will be tolerated (any such thread will be deleted as soon as I know about it), but that doesn't mean you can't disagree with the essay, with the author, with each other, just do it with the fact that these are all just opinions in mind.
I'd like to have one for every day of any given Character's month, though this may be too much to ask. I won't begin until I have my minimum requirements (listed below) for at least the first to characters. Here's the order in which I plan on doing things. . .
2004 - November - Buffy
2005 - January - Willow
2005 - February - Giles
2005 - March - Xander
2005 - April - Angel
2005 - May - Cordelia
2005 - June - Amnesty Month
2005 - July - Faith
2005 - August - Wesley
2005 - September - Anya
2005 - October - Oz
2005 - November - Spike
2005 - December - Tara
2006 - January - Amnesty Month
2006 - February - Dawn
2006 - March - Riley
2006 - April - Doyle
2006 - May - Gunn
2006 - June - Fred/Illyria

The minimum I'd like to have for each character
Seasonal Essays - Each essay would focus on one season of one show.
Character Essay - An overview of the character focusing on their introduction, the general theme of their character, defining moments in the character's life and their eventual end (whatever that means for the character).
Past Essay - For many of the characters, their past before the came to the show is only given in glimpses and hints. I would like for this essay to gather all the canonical references to those pasts, and then for the writer to put it all together with their own speculation.
Character Studies - I'd like to have about four of these per character. Short fic (no more than 500 words) written in the character's POV, which shows a defining moment in their life, something that changed who they were and how they acted.
